It’s finally that time of year again where the warm weather is upon us. The birds are chirping. The days are getting longer. It’s the perfect time for some outdoor reading in a peaceful backyard! Are you looking to find something new to dive into that’s related to the technology world we live in? Well lucky for you, we have some suggestions! By now we all have some sort of understanding on how to use a smartphone, a tablet, an iPad, or maybe even a Virtual Reality device. But, something we might not all know about or completely understand, is how we’ve become addicted to technology, or who this famous tech influencer Elon Musk is. Here are a few Top Tech Books to Read this Summer.  These books have been enjoyed by many readers, including myself!

How Technology Works

You can’t find an easier way to start understanding a little piece of everything.  This book has it all when it comes to the nitty gritty of the Tech World! It includes 9 primary topics that go through some basics on devices and how you can use them, to the history and evolution of construction with 3-D Printing and nanotechnology. How it’s structured will provide you with a step-by-step guide to better understand all the ins and outs. What you will find inside makes it an easy read with graphics and charts to break down timelines and learn the history. From electricity and power resources, to medical departments and hospitals, and even a bit in the farming industry – there is something for everyone. Definitely worth a read! The book is only available in hardcover at the moment, but you can find “How Technology Works” in a book store like Barnes & Noble, or you can purchase it right on Amazon.

ELON MUSK: TESLA, SPACEX, AND THE QUEST FOR A FANTASTIC FUTURE

Elon Musk has become the poster boy of smart cars, space travel and pushing the limits of technology’s evolution.  Tesla has had its ups and downs, and SpaceX has dealt with both failures and recent success. This Biography really dives into the sacrifices and huge risk that Elon has taken to attain something he truly loves doing as well as trying to make changes for the better. It takes a look at business relations he had with his companies, and the hard decisions he had to make along the way.

Irresistible: The Rise of Addictive Technology and the Business of Keeping Us Hooked

There’s no denying the addictive nature of social media and smartphones, but with the downsides also comes with a lot of positives – such as the ability to connect and communicate with people all over the world. If you would like to learn how to mitigate the “bad parts” of the addictive technologies in your life, I would suggest giving this book a read.

Data and Goliath: The Hidden Battles to Collect Your Data and Control Your World

This book was written to get our attention when it comes to our personal privacy. Subjects and topics in this book go into detail on what should be discussed with the public regarding our personal information and how it’s stored. Data and Goliath is geared more towards government and industry regulations, but also keeps individuals in mind regarding how the collection of your identity and information is handled. If you are interested in learning more about security and surveillance in our digital age, this book is a great read.

The History of the Future: Oculus, Facebook, and the Revolution That Swept Virtual Reality

Nowadays, it seems everyone has a Facebook account, and we all see it as a vital way to keep in touch with family and friends. Facebook makes it convenient to share pictures with your loved ones on the internet. We find it easier to celebrate (or remind us) about birthdays, find out where the best local event nearby is this weekend, and even make video calls. But what you might not know about Facebook and its CEO Mark Zuckerberg is the interest in Virtual Reality.  “The History of the Future” paints a picture of the beginning to what some may know called “Oculus”. It’s inventor, Palmer Luckey, was at a very young age when he began working on the project. It was eventually bought by Mark and Facebook for over $2 Billion. What you will find is how the experiment began, what was gained and learned from the project, and who else drew attention to the technology. Oculus really pushed the Virtual Reality idea forward and was hopefully going to draw all eyes to the invention. Grab your copy of this book today.

Walking into your local bookstore or browsing for a new book online can be a little overwhelming given the large selection that’s available in any genre. If you’re just not sure where to begin, but one of the above reviews has peaked even the slightest bit of your interest, I assure you it will be worth it to pick up that book! Happy reading 🙂
